A new year and a new batch of stuff. Let me expunge.

… Every New York Giants wide receiver might want to think about asking for hazard pay. The latest news is Taye Biddle, who was called up from the practice squad to replace Plaxico Burress after he shot himself, also was shot. Only this time it wasn’t self-inflicted.

… I may have said this before, but why is Happy Hour longer than an hour?

… Baseball season is almost here. Thank the good lord for that.

… There’s been a Dan Reeves sighting. The old Denver and Atlanta head coach is interviewing for the 49ers offensive coordinator job. If history is any indication, if he’s hired that means San Fran fans can get used to draw plays on nearly all third-and-longs.

… Who else wants to see Kurt Warner win another Super Bowl?

… Shameless plug. The fifth annual Freedom All-Star Classic is set for April 11. This has become a pretty nice event over the years and we’d love to have all of you there.

… Over-under on how long the recession lasts? 1.5 years. Any takers on that bet?

… I think with all the high costs of living I’m pretty happy to have a $52 power bill for the month of January.

… If you haven’t yet, be sure to watch Lost. It’s getting really good.

… It’s only a matter of time before Movie Gallery closes. People don’t rent movies anymore. They have Netflix or On Demand and the movie’s always guaranteed to be in.

… Well, it seems that W, or the NSA to be more exact, was spying on journalists. Scary, but I don’t think they checked up on me.

… My anniversary is Sunday. Here’s to seven years.

… That said, I need to scrounge up some money for dinner.

… I love having a cold. Not.

It’s been a while. My brain is overflowing. Here we go.

… I recently tried to pay a bill over the phone for a credit card in my wife’s name. I was ready to pay the amount, but I was told that my wife would have to call in to make the payment because they said I couldn’t verify I was her husband. I asked, “How many people call you and want willingly give you (X amount of dollars)?” They still didn’t budge.

… I’ve lived in sometimes cold places such as Colorado and Ohio, but I don’t think there’s a better fall than the one you get here in Florida.

… Speaking of falls, how ’bout that OJ? He may spend the rest of his life in jail after all.

… Why didn’t the government bail us out?

… Gas is $3.25. Time to throw a party.

… With all the pressure of the world, all the bills, all the problems, it’s easy to forget about the simple pleasures. Take some time to get re-aquainted with yours.

… Here was the joke of the day a few weeks back following the Gators’ chocke job against Ole MIss. Someone in the office picked up a Gator football and asked the owner if it was a real game ball. The owner said no but he wished it were. I piped in and said, “If it were a game ball it would come up one yard short every time you throw it.”

… You ever begin to wonder where all the time went?

… I need to get my glasses.

… It really doesn’t matter who wins the presidency. We’ll still battle high gas prices, rising food and energy costs and be right where we are today three years from now. Yay.

… Sarah Palin may not be the most experienced person in the world, but she really doesn’t deserve to be ridiculed at every turn.

… Ball State is in the Top 25 and Florida State isn’t. How’s that for parity?

… Kimbo Slice is overrated. Yet, I don’t think any of us would want to be on his bad side. Oh, and his intro was 10,000 times longer than the match.

Here’s more junk from my cabesa. Enjoy.

… I’m glad our area football recruits are honest. A dude named Kevin Hart made everyone, including his school, the media and friends and family, believe he was recruited to play at Cal. It turns out he wasn’t even recruited by the team. You can read about the fiasco by clicking here.

… Call me crazy, but I don’t think an aggressive driving police officer should have been tailgating me the other day. Isn’t that the epitome of aggressive driving?

… Why do I need to have a prescription for insulin to qualify for the co-pay? I’m never NOT going to need insulin unless there’s a cure or my pancreas miraculously starts to work. I think the insurance company should give me the benefit of the doubt. Plus, what doctor will some day say “Hmmm, I don’t think I’ll write you that insulin script, you don’t need it.”

… Lost is back on and I couldn’t be happier. It’s intriguing right off the bat.

… Is it too much to ask some to flush a urinal? Oh, and why are people afraid to let one rip in a bathroom? It IS a bathroom, which is the place for such things.

… I’m wondering when the first negative presidential ad campaigns will arise. I think we’ll see one soon if Mrs. Clinton is on the ticket.

… The presidential hopefuls, as well as those who fell by the wayside, are immortalized in a series of Presidential Predictors cards released by Upper Deck in packs of baseball cards.

… This whole Roger Clemens thing is getting odd. It will be interesting to see how it all turns out.

… I need to pay off the balance on my truck loan. It will be difficult to come up with the cash on short notice, but not having a monthly payment for a while will be nice.

… We have big plans for the News Herald sports department in the upcoming Newsherald.com redesign. I;m talking huge stuff, plus nothing that has been done here, maybe ever.

… Val Kilmer’s the new voice of K.I.T.T. in the NBC TV movie Knight Rider. He’s a good choice, but no Mr. Feeny.

… Speaking of Batman (OK I wasn’t, but Kilmer played the character in a movie) The Dark Knight is on the way this summer. Of course it’s Heath Ledger’s final film and all accounts say his take as the Joker was disturbing, which is good.

… Spring Break is less than a month away. Hide your kids.

… I turn 31 this week. In my view, every year I get to is a bonus. Life is too short to worry about your age.

I know you guys have worthless muck in your heads. Let it out.

The New Year may only be a few days old, but there’s plenty of stuff stuck in my head that I need to shove out. Here are the results.

… It was a nice stand taken by the top late-night hosts on Wednesday. The writer’s guild strike stopped production for eight weeks, but it was time to put people back at work. As Jay Leno said, “19 people put 160 out of work.” That’s simply not fair.

… West Virginia University has its man (Bill Stewart) and he was right beneath the Mountaineers’ noses all this time. Maybe they’ll get some loyalty out of him too, unlike Rich Rodriguez.

… It finally feels like winter.

… It’s difficult to cook with a broken stove.

… My New Year’s resolution was not to make any New Year’s resolutions.

… I still think LSU will win the national title. But Monday’s BCS Championship will be one heckuva game.

… It’s been mighty cold in the office the past two days. We built a fire in a trash can and sang songs. It was crazy.

… Have you seen the Chris Bosh video, where he’s asking for everyone’s All-Star vote? It’s pretty good and funny, too. You can view it by clicking here.

… When I start to miss Colorado I think of picking up a shovel and spending a few hours removing snow from the walkway. Then I don’t miss it as much.

… I managed to finish seventh in our work fantasy football league. I knew I wasn’t the worst team in our league, and wins in four straight games proved that. Mr. Cazalas, however, wasn’t as fortunate as he finished dead last.

… Who’s your favorite in the Iowa Caucus? Ho hum.

… I just heard a story of a Michigan couple that thought they won $150 in the lotto when in fact they won a quarter of a million. They should be thankful the store clerk didn’t give them $150 and then cash in the ticket for the big haul.

… My Your Movie Database (YMDB) page has been erased. The Web site went to a new server and I need to compile my top movie list again. Want to do your own? Click here.

Any random thoughts?

A wonderful Saturday afternoon has churned up the muck in my brain. Feel free to peruse.

… I saw a show that said the world will end on Dec. 21, 2012. Guess I don’t have to worry about paying off those credit cards.

… So Xavier Lee is canned for two games for not going to class and Geno Hayes sits out one quarter for being arrested and Tasered? Wow.

… I haven’t been for a swim in a while.

… I need to do Christmas shopping, But that requires money.

… My cat is only cuddly when he’s hungry.

… Is it ever going to feel like fall?

… Rude people should be sent to an island where they can annoy each other.

… My wife went back to school for her master’s degree. Looks like it’s more time for vide games.

… I need one day where I don’t think or worry about anything.

… My profession is changing by the day. It’s a fun time, but also scary for those who don’t understand the power of the Internet.

… It irks me when people say “he’s the best of all times.” It’s of all time, not all times.

… Winn Dixie in Callaway is packed every night. Do these people need to shop this much?

… Time to watch some TV.

What’s in your mind?

I’ll start off this whirlwind of thoughts on a serious note.
… Thoughts and prayers go out to Kevin Everett, the Buffalo Bills tight end who suffered a major neck injury against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. A career was cut short, but more importantly, let’s all hope he pulls through and is able to live a life as full as it can be. UPDATE, Sept. 11, 7:45 p.m. - new reports say he’s moving his arms and legs and has minimal swelling on the spinal cord, and doctors are hopeful he can walk again.
… Note to the guy in the Too Fast and Furious vehicle who sped past me on Tyndall Parkway. We both stopped at the same light. Bet that five seconds helped you somehow. Yeah right.

… I’ve been lax on my moviegoing. There’s so much to see and so little time to do it in.
… We’re cooking up new ideas at The News Herald. It’s a wonderful time to be a journalist.
… Why is that laundry never seems to end?
… Went to the new DQ on the beach. I waited for 15 minutes in the drive through, but with my diabetes, I had to eat. Nothing better than the chicken finger basket, though some people have a problem with the food there.
… My fantasy football season started with a 2-2 record in my leagues. I again opened my work league on a losing note. Same thing happened last year, but I rebounded to win the trophy.
… The first weekend of the NFL season was one of the best in recent memory. This truly is the best time of year. And My Broncos sure know how to get a field-goal unit onto the field.
… I’m the 19th customer to be put into the new GameStop database. A nice guy works there, unlike some of the people at the mall store.
… I could go for some pizza.
… We need more nice people in the world.
… I’m thinking it’s time to make a movie.
What’s in your head?
And as always, you can surf to my blog index for more entries.;;

… I know what happens to Harry Potter. Yes, I read the last 20 pages or so while enjoying some time with friends. Without giving anything away, I’ll just say J.K. Rowling chickened out.
… Leave it to the NBA to trump the NFL with an even larger story. Dogfighting is bad enough, but;alleged point shaving and fixing games by a referee? That’s much more damaging.
… And while we’re on the subject of Mike Vick, I’m amazed how people say his possible departure from the team would hurt ticket sales. I mean, come on, I agree he’s talented, but what has he brought the city of Atlanta? One playoff victory in Green Bay how many years ago?
… Don’t you hate when you let that one mosquito into your house and it eats you alive?

… I find it odd that Parker Sanitation is neither named for an area it services (Parker) or for a name of an owner with the possible same last name.
… Water is good. I need to drink more of it. I’m working on that.
… Watch a really bad movie once in a while. It’s wildly entertaining, especially when you have some sense of what good film is.
… What’s the first question I get when I tell someone I work for The News Herald - Why wasn’t my paper delivered on time?
… The most use for;my dining room table? A lounge spot for;my cat.
… Speaking of my cat, he nearly disgorged on my $600 piece of technology. Some may remember the story of my cat puking on my PS2. Well, luckily I put my PS3 away the other day after playing NCAA Football 08. I came downstairs the next morning to see a pile of kitty goodness right where the PS3 used to be.
… Some people need to grow up. Some people need to learn what real life is about.
… More people need to say Thank You. And as a public service announcement, when I hold the door open for someone and they don’t say thanks, I simply tell them “You’re Welcome.” That may come across as mean, but they were rude in the first place.
… Who really cares about David Beckham?
Don’t be afraid to leave comments.

A coveted free second helped grease the wheels in my brain. Here’s the result of the spinning.
… Why does happy hour last more than an hour? And how can the Goodwill have a happy hour?
… NASCAR should save its best event for the end of the year. Having your Super Bowl to open the season doesn’t make much sense, even though it did feature a fantastic finish.
… Recent irony: I saw someone driving their car without a seatbelt on. While not a rare occurrence, it was ironic because they had a bumper sticker that read, “Buckle up or pay up.”

… Ever wonder why some people are so rude? Like the guy who cut in front of me at the grocery store when I was the only one in line.
… Also on that note, I hope the young ones at the check-out counter put those cigarettes back that they hid under the plastic bags. Perhaps they took them home, which is what I’ll put my money on.
… I bet the FCATs are fun. Or not.
… Ever walk outside and wish there was a baseball game going on somewhere?
… In a perfect world we would have someone else do our laundry all the time. That, and the dishes.
… Who will believe in you if you doubt yourself?
… Should you make note of a mistake in pricing for an item? Should you question your insurance company if they have a mistake on a co-pay? Let’s just say I wasn’t one to do so today.
… Now it’s time to gather some cheap blog hits by putting in key words that people may be seeking on Google. They are Jack Nicholson, NFL, Chris Leak, the Oscars, Scarlett Johansson, Matt Kenseth, Food Network.
… It’s said that taking naps can lead to better health. Also, I’ve read that playing video games can help improve motor skills and your eyesight.
… More “Dancing with the Stars.” Good or bad?
… Payday is around the corner. It’s about time.
… And always remember: at the end of the day we can only be who we are.
… Ever notice that when you want a rotisserie chicken at Super Wal-Mart there are never any out. And when you have no desire to eat one, there’s 10-15 when you walk through the door.
… Don’t be rude to your waiter or waitress. They’re there to serve you, but there are limits. Case in point, I saw someone snap their fingers at their waitress and ask her to stand there while they pulled out their credit card to pay. The waitress ignored the snapping and didn’t stand there like a child, which was a more appropriate way to act than the way the customer did.
… The Nintendo Wii News Channel went online today. Now, if they can just get the Shopping Channel to work properly.

… I need to stop renting movies and not watching them.
… I came across a decent film that I missed when it came out. I watched “Proof” prior to coming to work on Friday. The story was powerful, and Gwyneth Paltrow was stomachable, unlike some of her other roles.
… I recently celebrated my five-year anniversary. Next comes my 30th birthday in a little over two weeks. And, as I’ve said many times before, it isn’t bothering me.
… The early round of this year’s “American Idol” auditions haven’t been as funny as year’s past. But, there have been some truly hilarious moments.
… “Lost” returns next week. The final episodes of this season hopefully will pick up steam for the show that has lost its way, no pun intended.
… Want a perfect, simple meal? Try a few egg, ham and cheese melts. You’ll be good to go.
… I miss milkshakes.
… The DVR (or TiVo for some of you) is a wonderful machine.
… Take the time to be generous to someone for no reason.
… Baseball season is here. Gulf Coast opens on Saturday. Check them out when you have a chance. There’s no admission and the team should put on a good show.
… As for the major leagues, it’s the Cubs’ year. Or, next year. Or, never. Or, well, life goes on. Have any random stuff you need to divulge for the reading public?

The weekend is drawing near, and it’s time for a few random thoughts to clear the head from a long week.
… Worst news of the week: We have to wait three months for a new episode of “Lost.”
… Louisville showed Thursday why the NCAA needs a football playoff. One bad game shouldn’t derail your chances, but with the BCS, it does.
… Some commercials are completely useless.
… I hope you voted Tuesday. It’s one of our freedoms.
… It’s egg nog season!
… The high school football playoffs open tonight. Have any favorite teams?

… Ever find yourself a nickel short at the vending machine?
… Never fear that you’ll fail. We all do sometimes.
… The next two months are the best time of the year. Spend it with the ones you love.
… I need to find a good book.
… I never had a three-day weekend for Veteran’s Day when I was in high school.
… We all should Google our name at least once in our lifetime.
… I hate falling asleep and waking up thinking I’ve been out for a while, only to find it’s been less than an hour or so.
… My truck is running hot, but it only happens in the fall and winter and not in the summer (which is odd, indeed). Any help out there with my problem?
… Best news of the week: Football, football, football and relaxation on the weekend.

Have any plans for the weekend? Any random thoughts? Let me know. I need comments, please.

I’m beginning to think I have too much floating around in my head. But, without further delay, here are some more random thoughts.

… Note to police: please pull over all those people who whiz past me in Youngstown, Fountain, Cottondale, Bristol and Blountstown as I do the speed limit.

… There have been few good movies out this year. I’m going to check out “The Departed” soon.

… Can we now soak in those wonderful fall temperatures, or do we have to have another hot spell?

… Christmas can’t come soon enough.

… Just because you own an SUV doesn’t mean you OWN the road.

… Oh, to be Miami coach Larry Coker. Beating Duke by just five points is the same as losing to the Blue Devils in my book. I wonder if he still feels he’s the best man for the job.

… Newest purchase: 46-inch Samsung HDTV from Best Buy. Life is good.

… Next purchase: More neat stuff to hook into my HDTV. Life is wonderful.

… My fantasy football teams all tanked this week. The law of averages caught up to me in many cases.

… What’s worse? The fear of failure? Or actually failing after trying your best?

… Are you ever amazed at the complexity of something so simple as a telephone?

… I wouldn’t want to be stranded in the ocean on a raft.

… I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again. I wish it would snow here this winter.

… Some people would be lost without a cell phone.

… “Boston Legal” is like the “Star Trek” reunion. At least three current actors on the show have starred in one “Star Trek” show sometime in their career. Of course, the pack is led by William Shatner, but also includes Rene Auberjonois and Armin Shimerman, who both starred in “Deep Space Nine” and Seven of Nine, Jeri Ryan, popped up on a few shows as well.

… Though I shouldn’t have many sweets, there’s nothing like a good cup of hot chocolate.

… A good scare is in order with Halloween around the corner. What frightens you?

… At least the World Series won’t end in a sweep.

… Anyone still play board games?

Have any randomness of your own? Let me know.

Also, feel free to check out my first batch of thoughts if you haven’t already.

For those who may be surfing here for the first time, or are just shy, please leave comments. I’d like to know your thoughts.

We all have stuff stuck in our heads that must be cleared out for fear that it will drive us batty.

To this point, I’m going to rattle off some of my recent brain muck. Hopefully you can relate to some or all of this. If not, maybe I’m the crazy one.

… Let someone pass you on a two-lane highway. If they pass you it’s because (a) they’re impatient, (b) speeding and (c) you’re probably going too slow. However, you should NEVER speed up to challenge them. That could cause an accident and I’ve seen it way too often.

… It’s amazing how “Dancing with the Stars” takes itself seriously. These are b-list stars at best, and they’re using this as an attempt to gain a little more fame until they fade into a career of infomercials.

… The NFL not only has large athletes, but it has players with an abundance of hair. I counted at least 10 players with long locks of hair, or ones who shoved all of their bushiness into a helmet. It makes the rest of us who have a lack of follicle power a little jealous.

… The best news I received this fall: replays of CSI’s new season are available on Comcast On Demand.

… A lesser known fact, maybe: DVR, or TiVo or whatever, is one of the greatest inventions. I record shows I know I won’t even watch just because I can.

… Another great invention: Google Earth and all the other satellite mapping gizmos. It may not sound like much, but it’s pretty fun to cruise around the world and see real things you have never seen before. The Grand Canyon tour is pretty cool.

… People today lack the gumption to accept responsibility for their actions. Responsibility is a powerful thing to accept.

… Freedom also is a wonderful thing. How are you spending your freedom?

… Try to use the phrase “as all get out” in your daily conversation. You’d be amazed how many ways you can use it.

… It’s “I couldn’t care less,” not “I could care less.”

… The color blue is nice.

… We all could use a good cry. When was your last one?

… Dark days are coming. My wife turns 30 in two months. I follow next February, but I’m not at all concerned.

… Try something different. It helps to break a stale routine once in awhile.

… I wish it would snow here this winter. I know it won’t happen, but it would be nice to be one of the few people who would know how to drive in snow.

Have any random thoughts? Share them with me.
