This and that (12)

A new year and a new batch of stuff. Let me expunge.

… Every New York Giants wide receiver might want to think about asking for hazard pay. The latest news is Taye Biddle, who was called up from the practice squad to replace Plaxico Burress after he shot himself, also was shot. Only this time it wasn’t self-inflicted.

… I may have said this before, but why is Happy Hour longer than an hour?

Baseball season is almost here. Thank the good lord for that.

… There’s been a Dan Reeves sighting. The old Denver and Atlanta head coach is interviewing for the 49ers offensive coordinator job. If history is any indication, if he’s hired that means San Fran fans can get used to draw plays on nearly all third-and-longs.

… Who else wants to see Kurt Warner win another Super Bowl?

It’s been a while. My brain is overflowing. Here we go.

… I recently tried to pay a bill over the phone for a credit card in my wife’s name. I was ready to pay the amount, but I was told that my wife would have to call in to make the payment because they said I couldn’t verify I was her husband. I asked, “How many people call you and want willingly give you (X amount of dollars)?” They still didn’t budge.

… I’ve lived in sometimes cold places such as Colorado and Ohio, but I don’t think there’s a better fall than the one you get here in Florida.

… Speaking of falls, how ’bout that OJ? He may spend the rest of his life in jail after all.

… Why didn’t the government bail us out?

Gas is $3.25. Time to throw a party.

Here’s more junk from my cabesa. Enjoy.

… I’m glad our area football recruits are honest. A dude named Kevin Hart made everyone, including his school, the media and friends and family, believe he was recruited to play at Cal. It turns out he wasn’t even recruited by the team. You can read about the fiasco by clicking here.

… Call me crazy, but I don’t think an aggressive driving police officer should have been tailgating me the other day. Isn’t that the epitome of aggressive driving?

… Why do I need to have a prescription for insulin to qualify for the co-pay? I’m never NOT going to need insulin unless there’s a cure or my pancreas miraculously starts to work. I think the insurance company should give me the benefit of the doubt. Plus, what doctor will some day say “Hmmm, I don’t think I’ll write you that insulin script, you don’t need it.”

Lost is back on and I couldn’t be happier. It’s intriguing right off the bat.

… Is it too much to ask some to flush a urinal? Oh, and why are people afraid to let one rip in a bathroom? It IS a bathroom, which is the place for such things.

… I’m wondering when the first negative presidential ad campaigns will arise. I think we’ll see one soon if Mrs. Clinton is on the ticket.

The New Year may only be a few days old, but there’s plenty of stuff stuck in my head that I need to shove out. Here are the results.

… It was a nice stand taken by the top late-night hosts on Wednesday. The writer’s guild strike stopped production for eight weeks, but it was time to put people back at work. As Jay Leno said, “19 people put 160 out of work.” That’s simply not fair.

West Virginia University has its man (Bill Stewart) and he was right beneath the Mountaineers’ noses all this time. Maybe they’ll get some loyalty out of him too, unlike Rich Rodriguez.

… It finally feels like winter.

… It’s difficult to cook with a broken stove.

… My New Year’s resolution was not to make any New Year’s resolutions.

… I still think LSU will win the national title. But Monday’s BCS Championship will be one heckuva game.

… It’s been mighty cold in the office the past two days. We built a fire in a trash can and sang songs. It was crazy.

A wonderful Saturday afternoon has churned up the muck in my brain. Feel free to peruse.

… I saw a show that said the world will end on Dec. 21, 2012. Guess I don’t have to worry about paying off those credit cards.

… So Xavier Lee is canned for two games for not going to class and Geno Hayes sits out one quarter for being arrested and Tasered? Wow.

… I haven’t been for a swim in a while.

… I need to do Christmas shopping, But that requires money.

I’ll start off this whirlwind of thoughts on a serious note.
… Thoughts and prayers go out to Kevin Everett, the Buffalo Bills tight end who suffered a major neck injury against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. A career was cut short, but more importantly, let’s all hope he pulls through and is able to live a life as full as it can be. UPDATE, Sept. 11, 7:45 p.m. - new reports say he’s moving his arms and legs and has minimal swelling on the spinal cord, and doctors are hopeful he can walk again.
… Note to the guy in the Too Fast and Furious vehicle who sped past me on Tyndall Parkway. We both stopped at the same light. Bet that five seconds helped you somehow. Yeah right.

Again with the this and that (6)

July 23rd, 2007, 1:39 pm by Brad Milner

It’s time again to release some of my inner mind muck. Enjoy.
… I know what happens to Harry Potter. Yes, I read the last 20 pages or so while enjoying some time with friends. Without giving anything away, I’ll just say J.K. Rowling chickened out.
… Leave it to the NBA to trump the NFL with an even larger story. Dogfighting is bad enough, but;alleged point shaving and fixing games by a referee? That’s much more damaging.
… And while we’re on the subject of Mike Vick, I’m amazed how people say his possible departure from the team would hurt ticket sales. I mean, come on, I agree he’s talented, but what has he brought the city of Atlanta? One playoff victory in Green Bay how many years ago?
… Don’t you hate when you let that one mosquito into your house and it eats you alive?

A coveted free second helped grease the wheels in my brain. Here’s the result of the spinning.
… Why does happy hour last more than an hour? And how can the Goodwill have a happy hour?
… NASCAR should save its best event for the end of the year. Having your Super Bowl to open the season doesn’t make much sense, even though it did feature a fantastic finish.
… Recent irony: I saw someone driving their car without a seatbelt on. While not a rare occurrence, it was ironic because they had a bumper sticker that read, “Buckle up or pay up.”

It’s time for another round of random items rambling through my head.
… Ever notice that when you want a rotisserie chicken at Super Wal-Mart there are never any out. And when you have no desire to eat one, there’s 10-15 when you walk through the door.
… Don’t be rude to your waiter or waitress. They’re there to serve you, but there are limits. Case in point, I saw someone snap their fingers at their waitress and ask her to stand there while they pulled out their credit card to pay. The waitress ignored the snapping and didn’t stand there like a child, which was a more appropriate way to act than the way the customer did.
… The Nintendo Wii News Channel went online today. Now, if they can just get the Shopping Channel to work properly.

More of this and that (3)

November 10th, 2006, 10:06 am by Brad Milner

The weekend is drawing near, and it’s time for a few random thoughts to clear the head from a long week.
… Worst news of the week: We have to wait three months for a new episode of “Lost.”
… Louisville showed Thursday why the NCAA needs a football playoff. One bad game shouldn’t derail your chances, but with the BCS, it does.
… Some commercials are completely useless.
… I hope you voted Tuesday. It’s one of our freedoms.
… It’s egg nog season!
… The high school football playoffs open tonight. Have any favorite teams?
