Musa is trailing me and many have deduced it was the tape worm and not the near-death experience that gave him his powers. Either way, he’s down and looking to get back up. The season is drawing to a close and he has to make his move quick if he’s going to do it.

Here we go.

His college picks: South Carolina over Florida, Florida State over Boston College and New Mexico over my alma mater, Colorado State University.

His NFL picks: Chicago over Green Bay and Washington over Dallas.

My picks: Florida, FSU, CSU, Green Bay, Washington.

Musa’s football record last week: 1-4
Musa’s misc. record: 0-1 (presidential election)
Musa’s baseball record: 3-4
Musa’s football record: 20-20
Musa’s overall record: 23-25

The day has arrived, when history is made. No, I’m not talking about a landmark election. I’m talking about a cat predicting the winner, which is rarely, if ever done.

Musa made a choice a few months back. I decided I’d let him sit on it and then have him make another selection the day before the election between Barack Obama and John McCain.

Or will he choose "change" and Barack Obama?

Musa has shown a propensity to watch television (his favorite is women’s college basketball), so it’s not out of the realm of possibilities to think he has endured an attack ad or two or five thousand. Heck, maybe he’s even reading the paper while we’re away.

Musa took no time to make his first choice (here’s the method) those many weeks ago. He chose McCain, who at the time was strong in the polls and fresh off a boost from Sarah Palin.

Then came the change in momentum, the attacks on Palin from every angle. And the debates showed McCain a tired and weary man, while Obama looked every bit as energetic as what the American people would dream to feel like (he has a way of sounding good, at least).

The ads flowed. Obama was on every TV station. He had an informercial, where he sold us Sham Wows and can openers. Ok, that he didn’t do, but that would have been cool.

The tide was turning, but McCain refused to give up. His chances may be slim, but give the guy credit for trying. And stranger things have happened.

I’m sure, in his own way, Musa soaked most of this in. His selection may be influenced by TV, but he’s never logged onto the Internet (not to my knowledge, but if he does I’ll be rich). So he hasn’t seen the fancy delegate maps that all but predict the end of McCain.

And about that, I don’t recall any other election where so much emphasis has been placed on the delegate counts already. It’s almost like the mainstream media wants to call the race days in advance. Previous elections didn’t have this kind of thing, or at least maybe they did but I missed it.

Anyhow, Musa has had several months to make his final decision. And it is, without hesitation: John McCain. Like I said before, he likes the underdog.

My choice: It will be interesting if McCain pulls out some battleground states, but this race will be over early. Here’s change, like it or not, as Barack Obama wins. That’s how I see it, not necessarily how I will vote.

No matter your side, get out and vote. It’s easy and it’s your duty.

You see, she’s an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan and would like nothing better than her team to defeat Florida on Saturday. However, she is a realist and knows the game won’t be easy to win. Plus, she works with a ton of Gators fans and she doesn’t want to hear about it if Georgia loses.

Musa may be cognizent of this fact as he took longer than usual to make the pick for the game. Well, here it is.

Musa’s college picks: Florida State over Georgia Tech, Texas Tech over Texas and Georgia over Florida.

His NFL picks: Houston over Minnesota and Dallas of the New York Giants.

My picks (and these are difficult): FSU, Texas, Florida, Minnesota, Giants. (this could change the standings dramatically)

Musa’s football record last week: 2-3
Musa’s baseball record: 3-4
Musa’s football record: 19-16
My baseball record: 5-2
My football record: 20-15

I’ll have his official presidential race selection in the near future. I aksed him to pick several weeks ago and the pick refelected the polls at the time. I’m not giving anything away, but you can guess who he picked. I’ll ask him again next week.

His college picks: LSU over Georgia, Alabama over Tennessee and Penn State over Ohio State.

His NFL choices: Pittsburgh over the New York Giants and San Diego over New Orleans in the London game.

My picks: Georgia, Alabama, Penn State, Giants, San Diego.

This by far is Musa’s biggest pick of the year. It’s the World Series after all, the grand spectacle that carries with it one of the most interesting stories for Major League Baseball in a long while.

You have the Philadelphia Phillies, who have lived with high expecations for years only to see it come to fruition this season. Then there are the Tampa Bay Rays, who dropped the “Devil” from their name and have advanced to third first World Series after losing every previous year of their existence.

Musa took longer to make this pick than others. Perhaps he understands the magnitude. Or maybe he was worried about the tape worm he contracted from a flea some three weeks ago.

Hey, come to think of it, maybe the tape worm had been giving him tips. Maybe they aren’t bad at all. Maybe they have predicting powers, too.

Maybe not. And you can be sure I won’t ask a tape worm its thoughts on college football. The tape worm is gone by the way, poor Musa. Man, he’s had a lot of medical issues but keeps ticking.

After much deliberation and false alarms on both teams, Musa came to a conclusion. He picked the Rays.

I think the Phillies will win. I decided this because I think they are a better team. Plus, being a Cubs fan, I don’t want to see another fresh Florida team win a world title while Chicago toils in mediocrity.

It could happen, but I’ll just live with it.

Our football picks will come later this week.

Musa’s football record last week: 2-3 (he slumped in the college picks this week)
Musa’s baseball record: 3-3
Musa’s football record: 17-13
Musa’s overall record: 20-16

OK, so these are late, but I have a good excuse. Our corporate servers took a hit in Cali this weekend and it was at its worst Saturday morning, when I tried to post this. It also made posting Friday football impossible, which it still kinda is (they are working hard, as it hit every paper so be patient).

Now it will be increasingly obvious to anyone that I wasn’t cheating with my picks this week when you see what transpired. Musa is getting really good at the college choices.

Musa’s college picks (he liked the upset): Texas over Oklahoma, OK State over Missouri and North Carolina over Notre Dame (not technically an upset).

His NFL picks: Miami over Houston and Carolina over Tampa.

My picks: Oklahoma, Missouri and NC (which means he’s tied me), Miami and Carolina.

Musa’s football record last week: 3-2 (hit all the college games)
Musa’s baseball record: 1-3
Musa’s overall record: 13-11

My football record last week: 1-4 (Atlanta was my only win)
My baseball record: 2-2

The first round of the MLB playoffs is history, and along with them went the Chicago Cubs.

This was supposed to be their best chance in years to get back there. Instead, they channeled the ghosts of the past and played no better than a Little League team.

The only thing I have to say is I hope the Tampa Bay Rays don’t win the World Series. However, I fear they may do just that.

Baseball karma is a tricky thing. The Cubs have been snakebit, while teams like Florida have won two championships as an expansion team of all things. Now the Rays, losers every year of existence but this one, this one, appear ready to win it all. Yuck.

Anyhow, Musa was right on only one series in the first round: the Dodgers. He was 1 for 4.

I hit on the Rays and Phillies and missed the other two series.

The second round picks and current records follow after the jump. Refresh your memory to find out how I do this.

Musa is high on the favorites in each series. He picked the Phillies and the Rays, though the world is screaming for a Dodgers-Red Sox series.

I have to agree. I think the Rays will win at least three at home and can take at least one in Boston. The Dodgers could pull it out, but the Phillies will win in six games.

Musa’s football record last week: 3-2 (hit all the college games)
Musa’s baseball record: 1-3
Musa’s overall record: 13-11

My football record last week: 1-4 (Atlanta was my only win)
My baseball record: 2-2
My overall record: 15-9

Check back later in the week for the latest football picks.

I guess he had the foresight about that Dodgers-Cubs series. Man, that’s depressing. The two worst games of the year all at the wrong time.

Anyhow, we both went 2-3 last week.

Picks after the jump:

His college predictions: Florida State over Miami, Ohio State over Wisconsin and Vandy over Auburn.

His NFL picks: Green Bay over Atlanta, Jacksonville over Pittsburgh.

My college picks: Miami, Wisconsin, Auburn.

My NFL picks: Atlanta (based solely on thinking Rodgers won’t play), Jacksonville.

Musa’s overall football record: 9-6.

My overall football record: 12-3.

There’s now a point of contention between my cat Musa and myself, and if I didn’t love him I think I would kick him out the door.

He picked the Chicago White Sox to upset Tampa in the first round. That’s not the problem.

The problem is he picked the Los Angeles Dodgers to defeat my favorite team, the Chicago Cubs.

That’s OK. He’s entitled to his opinion. And I don’t think he really understands what he’s doing. Or does he?

Refresh yourself on the method to this madness if you need.

Anyway, here are his picks for the first round of the MLB playoffs: White Sox, Angels, Dodgers, Brewers.

My picks: Rays, Angels, Cubs, Phillies.

I’ll post his weekend football picks later this week. Last week was rough for both of us.

Musa’s overall football record: 9-6.

My overall football record: 12-3.

It was a rough week for Musa. He didn’t say it outright, but you could tell he was a bit miffed after posting a worse record than his first go at prognosticating.

If you need a complete recap, click here to see those predictions and the method to this madness. In short, he was 3 for 5 and I was 5 for 5. He was wrong on FSU and Tennessee.

His college picks for this week: Georgia over Alabama, Illinois over Penn State and Auburn over Tennessee.

His NFL picks: Green Bay over Tampa Bay and Cleveland over Cincinnati.

My picks: Georgia, Penn State, Auburn, Green Bay, Cincinnati.

He also picked the winner for President. More on that at a later date. I’ll also have him pick the winners in the first round of the MLB playoffs.

Musa’s overall football record: 7-3.

My overall football record: 10-0.
