I’d like to take this opportunity to thank a few people for making the third annual Freedom All-Star Classic a success.
I’d like to thank Gregg Wolfe and his staff at Gulf Coast Community College for all their help. It was an honor to be the first games played on the newly refinished floor at the Billy Harrison Field House.
Also, thanks to our sports department at The News Herald, Jared over at the Northwest Florida Daily News and our marketing director, Nicole Barefield.
And, of course, thanks to the coaches, Steve Canfield, George hamilton, James Baxley and Rhondie Ross. Each put extra time into this thing (their OWN time) to set up practices. The girls practiced seven times, which was unheard of, but I appreciate the effort.
This year’s event was the biggest and we had a solid turnout for both games, including overlapping fans who were there for both games. We expect next year to be even bigger and the fifth year to be the best.
We’re already working toward next year, as we are looking to lock down sponsors. There will be some slight tweaking to the process, but for the most part everything seems to be running smoothly.
If you were there, I’d like to know what you thought as you watched the East teams earn their first sweep of the West.
