A life journey that began on the plains is currently continuing in Panama City. My first months were spent in South Dakota, where I was born at Ellsworth Air Force Base. My family moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., when I was about 8 months old.
I graduated from Colorado State University in Fort Collins in the spring of 2000 with a degree in technical journalism (news-editorial concentration) and a minor in English, with extended studies in fiction and non-fiction creative writing. I descended on Panama City following a three-year stay at a small community paper in Wapakoneta, Ohio, where I served as the sports editor and an entertainment writer.
I currently live in Springfield with my wife and our cat, Musa. My duties at The News Herald include covering local, regional and state athletics, including prep sports, college football and junior college baseball and softball. I also contribute to the Entertainer with a video game column entitled “The Gamesman.” Most recently, I was named the Sports Online Director, which carries the resonsibility of enhancing and overseeing our sports Web products.
My first foray into the fast-paced world of newspaper journalism began as a carrier for The Gazette in Colorado Springs, which was known back then as the Gazette Telegraph. That first job bookended my current career, as The News Herald and The Gazette are owned by the same company.
In my down time, I like to relax with my wife, play video games, watch sports and take in a film or two. My future goals include penning screen and stage plays and meeting John Elway, who is arguably the greatest quarterback of all time.
