The 2008 FSU football schedule (updated 12/29)

The 2008 Florida State football schedule. All times CST. I’ll update this when times are announced, as well as adding the results of each game. Note: Ranking before each opponent is the rank at the time of the game.

Sept. 6, vs. Western Carolina, W 69-0 (1-0, 0-0 ACC). No surprise here, other than it was good to see the offense play well without Preston Parker. Bay grad Bert Reed had a TD catch. Game stats.

Sept. 13, vs. UT-Chattanooga W 46-7 (2-0, 0-0). Again, no surprise. FSU was ahead 30-7 at halftime, with starting quarterback Christian Ponder throwing three touchdown passes. Bay grad Bert Reed had another TD, this time from backup QB D’Vontrey Richardson. Game stats.

Sept. 20, vs. No. 18 Wake Forest, L 12-3 (2-1, 0-1). FSU was held to 220 total yards and the Seminoles made seven turnovers. Wake Forest beat FSU for the third straight time, marking only the second occasion that an ACC opponent had a winning streak that long against the Seminoles. Game stats.

Sept. 27, vs. Colorado in Jacksonville, W 39-21 (3-1, 0-1). FSU’s special teams provided some punch with a blocked punt for a safety and a kickoff return for a touchdown by Michael Ray Garvin. Antone Smith had the kind of day Seminole fans have been yearning for, finishing with 154 yards and three touchdowns. Game stats.

Oct. 4, at Miami, W 41-39 (4-1, 1-1). This was a crazy game, but Antone Smith’s career-high four touchdowns paced the Seminoles to a big win. Christian Ponder didn’t do much in the air again, but he did make plays with huge runs. It was a key win heading into the bye week. Game stats.

Oct. 16, at North Carolina State, W 26-17 (5-1, 2-1). FSU rallied from a 10-0 deficit and Christian Ponder drove the team 70 yards for the winning score in a game that the Wolfpack rolled up 157 yards on the Seminoles’ top-ranked rushing defense in the ACC. Game stats.

Oct. 25, vs. Virginia Tech, W 30-20 (6-1, 3-1). FSU rallied from another 10-0 deficit to defeat the Hokies. The Seminoles played much better in the second half and remain tied for first place with Maryland in the Atlantic Division. Game stats.

Nov. 1, at Georgia Tech, L 31-28 (6-2, 3-2). Marcus Sims fumbled at the 1-yard line with less than a minute to go, as the Yellow Jackets held on for the win. FSU couldn’t stop the run, and Georgia Tech snapped a four-game winnign streak for the Seminoles. Game stats.

Nov. 8, vs. Clemson, W 41-27 (7-2, 4-2). FSU achieved bowl-eligibility with another game where it trailed early but gained control in the second half. The Seminoles will clinch the ACC Atlantic Division with two more wins and one more loss by Wake Forest. Game stats.

Nov. 15, vs. Boston College, L 27-17 (7-3, 4-3). FSU missed a perfect chance to control its own destiny in the conference. The Eagles were dominant and now are in position to take the Atlantic Division. Game stats.

Nov. 22, at No. 22 Maryland, W 37-3 (8-3, 5-3). FSU turned a close game into a rout in the second quarter, as its ACC title hopes are alive and well. Game stats.

Nov. 29, vs. No. 2 Florida, L 45-15 (8-4, 5-3). FSU was only in the game for as long as it took to flip the coin. It was Florida’s fifth straight win in the series and second in a row by blowout. Game stats.

Dec. 27, vs. Wisconsin in the Champs Sports Bowl, W 42-13 (9-4, 5-3). Everything clicked after the first quarter for the Seminoles, as they won nine games in a season for the first time since 2004. Game stats.
