FSU hires Jimbo Fisher

January 8th, 2007, 4:22 pm · Post a Comment · posted by Brad Milner

Florida State announced Monday the hiring of Jimbo Fisher as the new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

He replaces Jeff Bowden and Daryl Dickey, whose contract was not renewed. The announcement comes two days after FSU said it withdrew an offer from Fisher. Alabama also was clamoring for his services.

Fisher, who will officially sign a three-year deal later this week, did some good things at LSU and at other stops along the way, so the FSU faithful should be happy. FSU’s overhauled offensive staff is nearly complete, with Bobby Bowden saying Monday that the final piece of the offense, the running backs coach to replace Billy Sexton, will soon be hired.

The Seminoles also need to hire a linebackers coach to replace Kevin Steele, who bolted for Alabama.

Is this the shot in the arm that the program needs? Hiring Fisher couldn’t hurt, but we’ll have to wait and see how quickly he can turn things around.

I’ll have a complete story in tomorrow’s print edition. For now, leave your comments on the hiring.
